I'm more than a little scared...
Looking back over the weekend's Slashdot postings, there was a reference
to an NYT article (first-born required for registration, which is why I'm citing Slashdot) over an alternative approach to melting polar ice.
Less ice, it seems, is a good thing. It means the actual ground's easier to get at, so you can get the strip-mining going with less cost, and the shipping routes are less hazardous too.
It's bad enough when companies are not doing adequate environmental protection because it harms their profits; it's a whole new ball-game when it becomes financially beneficial to increase
environmental damage... Current Mood: nervous
