I think it was dmr who said "The steady state of disks is full." Or maybe it was Ken Thompson. But while that was true in the eighties and nineties, for the past decade my experience has been closer to Rob Pike's; he was talking about Plan 9, on the lack of a df command: the cost of disks kept dropping, and the size increasing, so what was the point of knowing how full they were? And this was in a lab where they included image-manipulation programs in their research scope.
Anyway. I should have a couple of rented movies for watching over the weekend, while on (or waiting for) trains, if I don't have the wattage to do the planned hacking.
